CE Course Description

This course equips social workers with up-to-date knowledge and skills for providing compassionate, effective end-of-life care. Through reference materials, case studies, and interactive discussions, participants will explore topics including hospice and palliative care, ethical decision-making, grief counseling, and cultural competence in end-of-life situations. Emphasis is placed on developing therapeutic communication strategies and creating patient and family-centered care plans, as well as supporting patients and families through anticipatory grief and fostering resilience.

CE Course Objectives

  1. Perform specific biopsychosocial assessments to identify and address the unique social, emotional, and practical needs of patients and their families facing end-of-life. 
  2. Implement patient-centered care plans focusing on holistic pain management, palliative/hospice education, and patient/family advocacy. 
  3. Explain communication techniques social workers utilize in discussing delicate topics such as patient prognosis, end-of-life decisions such as Advanced Directives, MOLST/POLST, Code Status, and funeral/memorial service planning.
  4. Describe essential practices, including grief counseling, anticipatory grief, interventions, and understand the role of interdisciplinary collaboration in person and family-centered approaches.
