CE Course Description

New mothers are experiencing sadness at alarmingly high rates and many are experiencing symptoms consistent with postpartum depression.  It is necessary that we understand the impact that depression in new motherhood has on not only the mother but the child and family unit. This course will provide an oversight into the depression that women experience in the first few months of motherhood in order to help professionals increase their skillsets and apply learnings to work with new mothers.  It will teach professionals to identify women at risk for depression in motherhood and help them to develop skills for intervention. It will explore common scenarios through the use of various case studies so that professionals can be prepared for the nature of work they might do if this is a population they have interest in serving.
