CE Course Description

Diverse cultures often require adjustments in behavioral health services to be best supported. Individuals with diverse backgrounds may speak different languages, have specific trauma histories, and have distrust for systems that offer them services. Because of this, clinicians must be prepared for how to effectively support clients with diverse backgrounds. They must understand their own backgrounds in order to do so. Therefore, it is essential that clinicians and organizations that hire clinicians have proper training, supervision, and ongoing support in cultural competency. This course will review the main tenets of cultural competency, offer suggestions for organizations for how to create culturally competent environments, and review research on the main groups of people who access care.
