CE Course Description 

When clinical social workers are engaged with clients, they may face concerns related to competence, social diversity, informed consent, conflicts of interest, privacy and confidentiality, as well as other issues. Social workers should understand the history of ethical standards in the social work profession, address competency and professional integrity, and review their ethical responsibilities of practice in social work settings.

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical principles, core values, and ethical standards that should be used to guide social work practice.
  2. Recognize conflicts of interest and how they may interfere with professional discretion and impartial judgment. 
  3. Examine criteria of informed consent and how to present risks and benefits of services. 
  4. Identify how to protect privacy and confidentiality and what are compelling professional reasons to disclose client information. 
  5. Examine the multi-dimensions of cultural competence.
